chapter HISTORY
Mississippi Valley Chapter: Celebrating 50 years!
This year marks a significant milestone for the Mississippi Valley Chapter of ASHRAE as we celebrate our 50th anniversary. Since our chartering on November 22, 1974, our chapter has been dedicated to advancing the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world.
The Mississippi Valley Chapter began its journey in 1971 as the Mississippi Valley Heating and Air Conditioning Society. The society was formed by several members of the Illinois-Iowa Chapter of ASHRAE who saw the need for a local chapter in the Quad City area, which includes Davenport, Iowa, and Rock Island, Moline, and East Moline, Illinois. The society quickly grew in membership and influence, and, by November 1974, it had become an official chapter of ASHRAE.
Over the past five decades, our chapter has been at the forefront of technological advancements and industry leadership. We have hosted numerous educational seminars, technical tours, and social events that have brought together professionals from various disciplines to share knowledge and foster collaboration. Our members have been recognized for their contributions to the industry, including receiving prestigious awards and honors from ASHRAE.
- Founding and Early Years: The first organizational meeting of the Mississippi Valley Heating and Air Conditioning Society was held on April 19, 1971, at the Holiday Inn in Davenport. The society's membership grew rapidly, and by November 1974, it had become the Mississippi Valley Chapter of ASHRAE.
- Educational Initiatives: Our chapter has a long history of providing valuable educational opportunities to our members. From the Basics Seminar program initiated in the late 1970s to the recent seminars on energy efficiency and sustainable building practices, we have consistently offered high-quality learning experiences.
- Community Engagement: We have always been committed to giving back to our community. Our chapter has supported local engineering students through scholarships and has participated in various community service projects.

Leadership and Recognition: Our members have held leadership positions within ASHRAE at the regional and national levels. We have also been recognized for our excellence in chapter operations, receiving the Presidential Award of Excellence (PAOE) multiple times.
As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we reflect on our rich history and look forward to the future with optimism and determination. Our chapter remains committed to promoting the highest standards of professionalism and technical expertise in the HVAC&R industry. We will continue to provide valuable resources and opportunities for our members and contribute to the advancement of our industry.
